NBS OPEN SHOW 2011

The NBS Area Show was held recently at Bowburn Community Centre, Bowburn, Co.Durham and whilst the entries were a little down the standard certainly was not.
Ann and Geoff Moore from Selby in Yorkshire were best in show with a super Any Age cinnamon grey green cock. The Best Young Bird went to Tom and Andrew Luke from Preston, Lancashire with a fantastic cinnamon green hen. Best opposite sex any age went to Ann and Geoff Moore and Best opposite sex young bird to beginner Derek Shotton. Who says the beginners do not get amongst the top winners?

Ed Freel with the help from Gaile Clarke prepared a great lunch and food throughout the day.The judges Geoff Bowley,Trevor Terheege,John Lewis,Ron Payne Adrian Richards and Sam Wildes commented on the wonderful meal!

Show secretary Brian Batey devised a new result sheet which gives much more information and this went down very well with the members.

Don Rowell needs a medal as a couple of days prior to the show was in hospital having had 2 small strokes but he was still there as show director. His partner Linda Heighton was also there working after having an operation on her back 2 weeks prior to the show. Such dedication must be mentioned and we give our heartiest thanks to them both.

Jim Smith worked on the patronage nearly all day and it is so upsetting when nearly all the patronage has to be returned as many were not in the nominated societies. This makes a very frustrating day for Jim.

I have to mention Margaret and Charlie Bowman who at their age are still in the mix working all day. Margaret managing the silent auction which made £154 and Charlie on the stage organising the colours.

Many thanks to the members Margaret and Charlie Bowman, Don Rowell and Linda Heighton, Keith Allison,Bruce Ross and Brian and Kev Batey for their kind donation of birds for the silent auction and also to our security team of Colin Wright and Kyle and Geoff Kime for stopping the night to look after the birds, a thankless task.
